‘Incandescente’ published in Argentina

With ever more evidence of the exponential growth of light pollution and the devastating effects on the natural world, it’s never been more important to talk about light. Delighted to see the Spanish translation of Incandescent in the bookshops in Argentina this month, published by Ediciones Godot

TENEMOS QUE HABLAR DE LA LUZ…!

Lichfield Festival – Sunday 12 September

We need to talk about Light…

Light is changing, dramatically. Our world is getting brighter. You can see it from space. But is brighter always better?

When Anna Levin began suffering adverse reactions to new forms of lighting, she found herself stumbling into a labyrinth of unanswered questions about how and why light is changing – for the worse – in the modern world…

Artificial light is voracious and spreading. Vanquishing precious darkness across the planet, when we are supposed to be using less energy. The quality of light has altered as well. Technology and legislation have crushed warm incandescent lighting in favour of harsher, often glaring alternatives. Find out why light is fundamental and understand its real impact on nature, our built environment, health and psychological well-being.

She asks the critical question: just how bright is our future? Anna Levin is a journalist and writer with a special interest in people’s connection with the natural world. She aims to make this complex scientific subject interesting and accessible to all at this appearance at Lichfield Literature Festival 2021.

TICKETS FOR ALL EVENTS WILL GO ON GENERAL SALE FROM August 3rd 2021 with PRIORITY BOOKING for Lichfield Festival Friends from July 20th:

International Dark Sky Week in Mayo

Delighted to be a part of Mayo’s celebrations of International Dark Sky week.

Here are the details:

Anna Levin Presents; Incandescent – We need to talk about Light

Our world is getting brighter – but is brighter always better? The living world evolved to an eternal rhythm of dawn-day-dusk-night… In her book ‘Incandescent – We Need to Talk about Light,’ journalist Anna Levin explores the consequences of disrupting this rhythm, on human health and the rest of the natural world.

Followed by

Emma Marrington Presents; Night Blight and the countryside

A starry night sky is one of the most magical sights of the countryside – but we want more people to have a chance to experience this amazing sight wherever they live. We will explore CPRE’s campaigning to tackle light pollution and to help protect and enhance dark skies.

Join us at 7pm on Thurs 8th April by Zoom webinar. Each of our events this week are hosted by a Dark Sky Community – this event will be hosted by Ballycroy .

The Notting Hill Editions Essay Prize 2017 Longlist

Thrilled to see my name – and my essay! – on the longlist for the Notting Hill Editions 2017 essay prize. My essay, entitled 'Incandescent – we need to talk about light' addresses my concerns about the banning of incandescent lightbulbs and the impact of the loss of incandescent light on human health and the wider environment.
